AUTOMOTIVE
MASTERBATCH EXPERTISE
FOR THE CABLE INDUSTRY

The automotive wiring harness industry is a highly technical sector and constantly strives to enhance vehicle performance with innovative technological developments in order to boost efficiency and productivity.

The new landscape brought about by the boom in electric cars, both plug-in and hybrid, is reorienting the industry towards new demands to incorporate more sensors and electrical and electronic components in vehicles.

FORMULATIONS

Compound formulations are changing too, posing further challenges to the colouring of cables which must meet highly demanding requirements on thermal and ageing resistance.

TESTED

Cables are extensively tested and subjected to extreme limits, depending on the different temperature classes.

PRODUCTION

Production speeds are constantly increasing, and the tendency towards decreased wall thicknesses and shorter extruders translates into less time to incorporate the masterbatches into the given compound.

Masterbatch designed to colour cables of temperature classes T2 and T3. Class T2 cables are exposed to considerable heat from radiation sources. These cables are expected to function at environmental temperatures from -40 to +105 °C and their typical application is in passenger compartments and under the bonnet. Class T3 cables are highly exposed to significant heat from radiation sources and are expected to function under environmental temperatures from -40 to +125 °C. Their typical application is close to the engine.

Temperature range (3,000 h)
T2 -40 °C to +105 °C
T3 -40 °C to +125 °C

Masterbatch designed to colour cables of temperature class T3 and T4. Cables of class T3 are highly exposed to significant heat from radiation sources and are expected to function under environmental temperatures ranging from -40 to +125 °C. Their typical application is close to the engine. Cables of class T4 are exposed to considerable heat from radiation and conduction and are expected to function under environmental temperatures ranging from -40 to +150 °C. Their typical application is in the engine oil circuit.

Masterbatch designed to colour cables of temperature class T5/T6, which are highly exposed to considerable heat from radiation and conduction. These cables are expected to function at environmental temperatures from -40 to +175 °C (T5) and -40 to +200 °C (T6).
