The passion for curiosity, research and invention has been part of Cabot’s culture since the day Godfrey Lowell Cabot applied for a patent for a “carbon black making apparatus” in 1882.
A young entrepreneur imbued with natural curiosity, Godfrey combined his knowledge of pigmentation and chemistry o become an early producer of carbon black. Carbon black was found in newspaper and magazine printing inks as well as tires and other rubber goods needed for the fledgling automotive industry.
